Aberystwyth chapels

Julian Orbach writes: Between 1864 and 1890 the eight major nonconformist congregations in the town of Aberystwyth built or rebuilt chapels [Orbach J, Welsh Chapels 1859-1914, in Churches 1970-1914, ed. Sladen T. and Saint A., The Victorian Society, 2011]. In fact there were four congregations, each having a Welsh and an Englsh variant.

Most of these chapels stand - a map exists.

(Seilo Chapel (image), now the Morlan Centre, predates this list: the Seilo congregation split to found Salem in the 1890s).

There is a fine War Memorial statue by Mario Rutelli in the courtyard outside the site of the Tabernacle on Powell Street.

Rutelli also produced Aberystwyth's main War Memorial which many might regard as risqué.

Rutelli further produced the only known full length statue of Edward VIII, to be found by the Old College on the Promenade.
